RICK'S REEL REVIEWS

Other Mommy was no better or worse than most of the movies like it. It had a lot of great visuals and you wanted to see the family get through their crap and come out better on the other side.

The journey continues with a new family, new dynamic. This time, its about the mother and daughter. It's a natural progression and after the Lambert family closed the red door, their story was over. Unfortunately, when one door closes...another one opens.

It's an end of the summer movie. It's larger than life, but it wasn't too big. The idea was intriguing. Having your entire neighborhood sent back to the age of dinosaurs isn't used all that often.

The story is important. Every parent should watch with their kids and talk about it. Though, as important as the story was, the pacing felt a bit off. Again, not the target demographic. It's made for a kids attention span of today. Which is much less than it was when I was a kid of the 80s.

Brand New Day does it part to ease the transition and also plant a seed for it, but without taking the attention from what's supposed to be a Spider-Man story. Peter is offically going from a teenage boy into a man.

Do you really need to issue a spoiler alert with a movie that's based on a book that's over 2000 years old? I don't think so. A good man goes to war. The man tries to come home, but the gods have other plans. Anyone who knows anything about Greek mythology knows those guys sucked. I can keep this one short, because there's no need to go into the details. No need to go into themes because its based on something that's been around forever. Nolan's take was an intense journey of

I've been a fan of these movies for the last couple decades. The original is iconic and a masterclass in horror writing and filming on a budget. The great Bruce Campbell is awesome in the role as Ash and though the films changed a bit in the two proceeding sequels, it was always a good time. The third is my favorite because it's the perfect blend of horror and comedy without going too far into the blood and gore. Then, not so long ago, we got a remake. Horror evolved over the

Let's talk about Supergirl! She's been helping save the world since the 1950s. From comics to cartoons to live action. She's the Woman of Steel...The Last Daughter of Krypton. She first appeared on the silver screen in the mid-80s with Helen Slater donning the red cape. The movie was...well we'll get to that soon. She arrived at an odd time for the Superman franchise. Part III had just released and it didn't do well and Reeve himself wasn't a fan of it. It definitely had its

I don't remember what was going on or why I didn't make it out to see this in theaters. I wanted to because the trailer I kept seeing had my attention. Arrived on MAX and gave it a watch.

Disclosure Day is all about truth and what it means to be human.

My movie enjoyment rules are simple...interesting stories, complex characters that I can root for. This movie barely hit those. While this movie wasn't terrible, it wasn't that great either. It failed to live up to the expectations the trailer showed. When I saw the trailer, it looked spooky. A dark entity follows a couple home while on the road. That was the crux of why I didn't love the movie. The Set Up: The start of the movie was interesting. Two guys on the road pull ove

Star Wars has been on a journey for decades: prequels, requels, tv shows and updated versions of the older films...Han shot first. I was never overly obessed with this franchise. I always did enjoy them for what they were. Fun space adventures of good versus evil. Rebels versus Empire. Hope versus facism. Okay, little more complex if you get too deep into them. Overall, its the hero's journey. We got the originals and a little over a decade later, the prequels. Another decade

Would have gone with the 'be careful what you wish for' tag for my tag, but I like to go with my bad jokes/puns/obscure pop culture references. It's another horror movie watch for the year. Absolutely love and enjoy them, even when they kind of suck. This one, however, did not. I don't know much about the writer/director Curry Barker, nothing really, but this was a very well written, well directed film. Start to finish he crushed it...might have gone a little overly with some

Welp...I only saw one movie this month. I'm on a new exhausting work schedule and there wasn't a whole lot I wanted to see. Next month, however, will have lots of good stuff. Horror and Grogu hits theaters. Should be fun time...just have to hope I don't fall asleep during them. The one movie I was able to see this month was Project: Hail Mary. Based off of the book Ryan Gosling is a brilliant science teacher that needs to save the world. There's a sciencey space thing (Petrov

When I saw the first one, it was insane. I mean, she punches a kid that shot her in the hand. Her will to survive was strong and as the credits rolled, I, like many people had to be thinking...Uh, she's cover in blood, house is on fire, family's dead; this doesn't end well for her does it? No...it does not. For a multitude of reasons.

Thirty years. That's how long this franchise has been around. It was thought to end on a trilogy. Then a fourth came out. Then a requel. Sequel the requel. Then finally, Scream 7. I first saw Scream when I rented it one weekend back in high school. I was staying at my aunt's house with my brother, Travis, and after my cousins were asleep I popped it in. The opening is one of the best openings of a horror movie. It grips you with unease and fear as Drew Barrymore gets a call f

Don't normally see two movies on a single weekend, but had to support Markiplier and been wanting to see Send Help...so I saw both.

It's a two for one review...The Housemaid and Primate

This movie was a bit of a mixed bag. While it was somewhat enjoyable, it was just as dumb as I thought it would be. It was at times, a little too over the top. There were a few moments that were quite relatable.

It's a battle of the husbands because she can only have one Eternity. Does she go with her first husband where she had the most chemistry and was her first love? Or the man she fell in love with after and had a life with? Children. Family. 65 years of happiness.

Rian Johnson knows how to write a compelling mystery. A mystery that seems so impossible only one man can solve it...Adrian Monk. Wait, no. Benoit Blanc, but let's face it, Monk and Team Psych could put it together too.

"Come in close, because the more you think you see, the easier it'll be to fool you."

Problem is in this future, the US is run by an authoritarian media network...far fetched, I know. Viewers are poor and with very little access to needed health care...again, far fetched, I know.

Keanu. A guardian angel. Aziz. A down on his luck guy living out of his car. Seth. Billionaire investor. Combined, it has the capacity to be a good movie. Sadly, this one was just okay. Keanu plays Gabriel, an angel that helps prevent accidents because people are texting and driving, but he wants to do more. Another angel colleague out there is helping save souls. That's what he wants to do. Arj (Aziz Ansari) is an aspiring documentarian, but like many in the media/entertainm

I saw the first Black Phone when it reached streaming. I laid in bed after a long day of work, heard good things about it, so I gave it a try. It was a fantastic horror movie. The suburbs of Denver are being rocked by a serial killer known as The Grabber. He kidnaps kids and they're never seen again. The story centers around one of the kids that's taken...Finn. As the days tick by, Finn tries to find ways to escape, his only help is the spirits of the kids The Grabber has ki

Strangers Poster So, I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this movie series. I didn't overly love the first chapter. A lot of it boils down to the protagonist, Maya. She's as smart as she is dumb. There are multiple times where she did something smart to survive, then did something stupid. If you stab someone trying to kill you with a pitchfork and walk away without stabbing again in their face, definitely ending them...you know nothing of survival. The movie itself

Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, The Long Walk, is about a group of young men participating in an annual competition: The Long Walk. These boys travel from all over the world with one goal...walk or die.

The Conjuring franchise has been scaring audiences in multiple storylines for more than a decade. The first hitting theaters in 2013. Those that were unaware were introduced to the Warren's. Paranormal experts that investigate hauntings and demonic possessions.

Horror movies get a lot of flack, but this year, there's been a lot of really decent ones. Sinners and this one are probably two of the top of the year. They're smartly written and tell an interesting story.

IMDB Catch up time. Saw this about two weeks ago. The MCU begins the final phase of the Multiverse Saga (that's been hit and miss, we all...
