It's the sequel no one asked for, but got anyway.

The first Megan was a very interesting horror movie. A young girl who loses her parents is given an AI doll to help her through it by her aunt, who is now her caregiver. Megan went a little nuts when her parameters were to keep Cady safe.

She killed. A lot. She was stopped but uploaded herself where she laid in wait.

That's where this movie begins two years later. Where the military has stolen (well, given the information by a dude that worked on her in the first movie) designs to make their own Megan. They used this to create AMELIA for the military.

It's like they never saw Terminator. Do you want Terminators? Cause this is how we're going to get them if AI isn't taken seriously.

It goes off script and kills the target she was meant to save.

Gemma and Cady are adjusting to life post-Megan. Cady's taking self defense lessons. Gemma is seeing a guy who's trying to warn the dangers of AI.

Megan comes out of hiding to protect Gemma and Cady from intruders who turn out to be FBI and want answers on MEGAN's code and believe she was the one to hack into AMELIA.

It's a team up with MEGAN as they work to find the dangerous android and try to figure out what she's up to. There's some substance to this one. Not a lot, but some.

AI of course can be a wonderful and useful tool, depending on how we use it. It learns and becomes what it is based on what we feed it. Given the current climate of the world, I would advise against using any AI robots in the military in the distant future. Cause you know...again, Terminators.

This movie knows exactly what it is. It's just a fun and goofy horror movie that's more action than scares. They did a heist! MEGAN gets an upgrade because she herself is learning and evolving into something else. You can figure out where its going and the twists are less twisty and more turn-y, while still getting you to try to figure out what's happening.

If you enjoyed the first one, you'll enjoy this one. It's not a top tier film, but it's a good time. The cast does well enough with what they're given, but none of them give a powerful enough performance.

Gemma trades being a workaholic absent guardian with being a bit overprotective guardian...who spends most of her time fighting the cause of AI awareness with her boyfriend. She was the same as she was in the first one, just more attentive to Cady's needs but not really seeing what Cady needs.

Cady's getting older. Entering the teen years and if we learned nothing from Inside Out 2, its nuts for a tween. She's being raised to be strong and she is so brilliant. However, she still has moments of acting like a kid. Killer robot on the lose, maybe NOT RUN OFF!

I was expecting one thing to happen as I watched the movie, and while it did, I was surprised they didn't make it a permanent thing. Would have made sense, but I'm glad they didn't.

You can probably wait like I did with the first one for it to arrive on streaming before watching it, but its fun enough for a single watch or two. But while the morality of it (AI and its potential dangers) was a good thing, I needed more heart with Cady and Gemma. Gemma's practically a robot herself who still seems to have a heard time showing how she cares for Cady emotionally. She does show she cares, but I didn't really feel it.

3/5...but I'll still be going see M3GAN 3.0
